Refurbished Polar Star completes Arctic ice trial

(JUNEAU, Alaska) — Polar Star, a Coast Guard icebreaker that recently underwent a $90 million renovation, arrived here in early August for public tours after completing an Arctic ice trial, the Juneau Empire reported. The 399-foot ship, homeported in Seattle, is back in service for the first time since 2006. Its first scheduled mission will be Deep Freeze 2014 in Antarctica.
