Railroad sues tugboat owners after Va. bridge strike

(CHESAPEAKE, Va.) — Norfolk Southern Corp. is suing two tugboat owners after a barge struck and damaged a key railroad bridge last month, The Virginian-Pilot reported. The suit filed against St. Augustine, Fla.-based Tradewinds Towing LLC and Chesapeake-based Intracoastal Marine Inc., respective owners of the tugs Simone and Maverick, seeks up to $5 million in damages. A barge being towed by Simone hit Bridge 7 over the Elizabeth River on April 26, shifting the bridge pier about a foot from its foundation.
