Propulsion pod blamed for Celebrity cruise cancellations

(MIAMI) — Two failures in one of Celebrity Millennium's propulsion pod systems forced the cancellation of five Alaska cruises earlier this month, Celebrity President and CEO Michael Bayley said at a news conference today. Bayley said the stator in the Rolls Royce Mermaid pod failed on Aug. 10 in Seward and again about a week later in Ketchikan, Cruise Critic reported. The ship is en route to Grand Bahama Shipyard, where it will receive a replacement pod.
