(MELVILLE, N.Y.) — Conservators are still hoping to save the SS United States, Newsday reported in a travel column. The legendary ocean liner was the largest and fastest ever built in the U.S., and some enthusiasts hope it someday can return to its homeport of New York. The documentary “SS United States: Lady in Waiting” is being shown on various PBS stations.
