PPG protective and marine coatings earn E. Crone Knoy Award

Recognized for coatings performance at Hoover Dam Bypass Bridge

PITTSBURGH, Feb. 1, 2011 PPG Industries¹ (NYSE: PPG) protective and marine coatings (PMC) business has been selected as the recipient of The Society for Protective Coatings (SSPC) 2011 E. Crone Knoy Award.

PPG PMC earned the recognition for the performance of its AMERLOCK(R) 400 and AMERCOAT(R) 450HS coatings at the Hoover Dam Bypass Bridge, also known as the Mike O¹Callaghan-Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge. Pacific Southwest Coatings, Yorba Linda, Calif., and United/Anco Services, Joliet, Ill., also were honored for their work on the project.
Michael Hartings, general manager, PPG protective and marine coatings, United States and Canada, said, ³PPG is very excited to receive the E. Crone Knoy Award. This project required a great deal of support from our customers, and the result is a quality finished project that will look good while serving visitors to Hoover Dam for decades to come.

The E. Crone Knoy Award is given annually by SSPC for outstanding achievement in commercial or industrial coatings work that demonstrates innovation, durability or utilty. Qualities considered include excellence in craftmanship or execution of work and use of state-of-the-art techniques or products to creatively solve problems or provide long-term service.

The bridge, which was constructed to improve safety, security and traffic capacity at the Hoover Dam, required specialized construction due to its height, the desert weather, limited access to work areas and the wide variety of surfaces that had to be coated.
Bruce Batinich, director of business development for United/Anco Services, a member of The Brock Group, said, ³PPG¹s products were chosen due to a number of factors, including color retention, ease of application and the excellent coverage and quality for the variety of touch-up conditions that existed on the steel structural components of the bridge.²
PPG received the honor Jan. 31 during the SSPC 2011 Conference at the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas.
