Los Angeles city council rejects new shipyard proposal at port

(LOS ANGELES) — The city council has rejected a proposal to develop a new shipyard at the Southwest Marine site, the Los Angeles Times newspaper reported. Gambol Industries has proposed a $50 million project to open a shipbuilding and repair yard. The city council sided with the Board of Harbor Commissioners, who were concerned that the development would complicate the port’s channel deepening project, which is a higher priority.
