Portland harbor officials to examine tour boat safety after groundings

(PORTLAND, Maine) — The Portland Harbor Commission is examining the safety of charter tour boats after three groundings in a 13-month period, the Press Herald newspaper reported. Commissioners want the tour boat companies to participate in a discussion of safety practices and accident prevention. One vessel owner pointed out that no new regulation is necessary because all three incidents involved the same company, and he said the issue is that captains need to be familiar with Casco Bay.
