(MONTREAL) — The Utviken, a bulk carrier flying the flag of the
Bahamas, arrived Tuesday at the Port of Montreal’s grain terminal to load 23,000 tonnes of wheat to be delivered to the Port of Antwerp in Belgium.

With its Green Award certification, the Utviken becomes the first ship to benefit
from a 10% fee reduction on port dues since the Port of Montreal officially became a
partner in the international Green Award program on January 29, 2009.
Built in 1984 in Bilbao, Spain, this 190-metre long vessel is operated by a Filipino
crew under the command of Captain Eulogio Panulaya. The Utviken is represented in
Montreal by the Fednav International Ltd. shipping agency. Before calling into the Port of Montreal, she was at Thorold, Ontario.

Green Award is a program launched by the Green Award Foundation, an
independent and impartial body that, since 1994, has focused on the worldwide
certification of seagoing vessels. Its objective is to stimulate and reward environmentally aware conduct of shipowners and their crews.

Vessels eligible for Green Award certification are dry bulk carriers and tankers,
including oil tankers, with a registered minimum deadweight of 20,000 tonnes. They are evaluated on their technical condition, the quality of their crew and the vessel’s onshore management. Vessels that meet these criteria receive Green Award certification, subject to annual verification and valid for three years. The certificate guarantees that the vessel is extra clean and extra safe. In exchange, it is entitled to reductions from the roughly 30 ports partnering in the program in 7 countries. About 220 seagoing vessels are currently certified by Green Award.
