Pilots, shippers oppose cut in Mississippi River dredging funds

(NEW ORLEANS) — Regional maritime organizations held a meeting to discuss concerns about a decrease in federal funding available for Mississippi River dredging, the Times-Picayune newspaper reported. The Associated Branch Pilots and Gulf States Maritime Association were among the groups raising alarms that vessel traffic could be negatively affective if the Army Corps were to reduce the amount of money devoted to dredging.
