PBS: Low water levels in Great Lakes cause conundrums for maritime industry

(LELAND HARBOR, Mich.) — Record-low water levels in the Great Lakes are causing a conundrum for harbor communities, PBS Newshour reported. As funds for dredging dry up, channels can't handle as much cargo, and therefore they aren't eligible for as much federal funding for dredging. An official with ferry operator Pere Marquette Shipping said his vessels and others are light-loading, which hurts revenue.
