Passenger falls off Alaska cruise ship; searchers find a body

The following is the text of a press release issued by the U.S. Coast Guard:
 
(JUNEAU, Alaska) — A female body was located by TEMSCO Helicopters Inc., while assisting the Coast Guard and Holland America in the search for a 45-year old woman reported missing and believed to have fallen overboard between Douglas Island and Glacier Bay National Park.
 
The body was located on the west side of Douglas Island about 4:30 p.m. and a Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew transported the body to the Air National Guard Hangar in Juneau where the Alaska State Troopers transported the body to the local coroner’s office for identification.
The Coast Guard is continuing its search for the missing woman until positive identification is provided by the coroner’s office.
According to the crew of the Holland America’s Zaandam, the missing woman last contact with the ship’s staff was about 12:30 a.m. after leaving Juneau when the cruise ship was near Douglas Island.
The Alaska State Troopers and the Coast Guard will conduct an investigation to cause of the incident.
