The following is the text of a press release issued by the U.S. Coast Guard:
(CORPUS CHRISTIE, Texas) — The Coast Guard conducted a medevac of a man from an oil rig supply vessel 27 miles offshore of Corpus Christi, Friday afternoon.
A watch stander at Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi received a call at 3:05 p.m. from the Sandra Sino, requesting assistance for a man who was working alongside of the oil rig after he became entangled in the bight of one of the mooring lines and had lost his leg.
Coast Guard Air Station Corpus Christi launched an HH-65C helicopter rescue crew and Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi diverted an 87-foot patrol boat to the location of the supply vessel.
The man was airlifted to Spohn Memorial Hospital where he was listed in critical, but stable condition.
