Oregon State Univ. intends to acquire new oceanography vessel

(NEWPORT, Ore.) — Oregon State University is trying to win state funding to acquire a new oceanographic research ship, the Oregonian newspaper reported. OSU’s current vessel, the R/V Wecoma, is in its 34th year of a projected 35-year lifespan. At the same time, the Port of Newport is attempting to become a center for Pacific Ocean research vessels by attracting a National Oceanic and Atmopheric Administration fleet.
