Barge operators skeptical of plans for 180K turbines in Miss. River

(MEMPHIS, Tenn.) — Barge operators including Marquette Transportation are skeptical about a plan to install 180,000 underwater turbines in the Mississippi River, the Arkansas Democrat Gazette newspaper reported. The mariners are concerned that the turbines would be placed in spots where vessels could strike them. The project organizers say they are studying ways to use the turbines without interfering with the shipping channel.
