One crewmember missing after Gulf work boat capsizes

The following is the text of a press release issued by the U.S. Coast Guard:

 

(NEW ORLEANS) — The Coast Guard is searching for a crewmember who reportedly went missing today after the work boat he was aboard capsized approximately 30 miles south of the Southwest Pass of the Mississippi River in the Gulf of Mexico.

Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a call from a crewmember aboard the research vessel, Western Monarch, at approximately 9:30 a.m. stating that a crewmember was missing after the work boat with four people aboard capsized while working with two research vessels, the Western Monarch and Western Neptune.

Three people were rescued by the Western Monarch. One man is still missing and was reported to be wearing an orange jump suit and a life jacket.

Coast Guard Sector New Orleans launched an HH-65C Dolphin rescue helicopter and crew from Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans and a 41-foot utility boat and crew from Coast Guard Station Venice.

The Coast Guard Cutter Sturgeon, an 87-foot patrol boat home ported in Grand Isle, La.
An HU-25 Falcon from Aviation Training Center Mobile, Ala.
An HC-144A Ocean Sentry from Aviation Training Center Mobile, Ala.
A Cougar Helicopters’ S-61 helicopter, from Galliano, La.
