(WASHINGTON) — The omnibus spending bill passed last week by Congress includes funding for a ninth national security cutter, even though the U.S. Coast Guard has said that eight is sufficient, the Sun Herald reported. Funding for the $640 million ship was inserted in the bill by Sen. Thad Cochran, R-Miss. Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, Miss., has delivered five NSCs and has three more under construction.
