The following is the text of a press release issued by the U.S. Coast Guard:
(PHILADELPHIA) — A 600-foot tanker with 21 people aboard is en route to Reedy Point for anchorage after it ran aground Monday in the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal 30 miles south here.
The Coast Guard received a call at 10 p.m. reporting the Tuchkov Bridge, a Liberian flagged tanker, was aground.
A rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Philadelphia, a rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Salem, N.J., a helicopter crew and two boat crews from the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control arrived on scene to the assess situation.
No injuries to the crew or pollution to the environment is reported.
It is estimated the Tuchkov Bridge is carrying 195,000 barrels of fuel oil aboard.
