Obama proposes cutting ‘obsolete’ Loran-C navigation system

(WASHINGTON) — The Obama Administration proposes eliminating the Loran-C navigation system, the regulatory news Web site Nextgov.com reported. Obama argues that the system is ‘obsolete’ and no longer is needed because of the widespread adoption of GPS. Supporters of Loran-C, which is run by the Coast Guard, point to a study that forecasts potential problems with GPS reliability due to delays in satellite deployment.
