(VANCOUVER, British Columbia) — Nordic Orion has become the first bulk carrier to successfully transit the Northwest Passage, The Globe and Mail reported. The ship, which sails under a Panamanian flag and is owned by Nordic Bulk Carriers of Denmark, left Vancouver on Sept. 6 carrying coal bound for the port of Pori, Finland. The voyage has raised concerns about an increase in commercial shipping in the Arctic.
