(NEW ORLEANS) — Some barge tows were allowed to remain in the Industrial Canal during Tropical Storm Ida, the Times-Picayune newspaper reported. No breakaway vessels were reported during the storm, unlike Hurricane Gustav, which resulted in numerous vessels getting loose. The Coast Guard decided Ida was modest enough to allow vessels to remain in the canal, but each was checked to ensure proper mooring.
