New York City agency issues study supporting maritime industry

(NEW YORK) — The New York City Economic Development Corp. has published a study of the city’s maritime industry, which provides almost 12,000 jobs. The Maritime Support Services Location Study focused on the tug and barge sector in addition to ship repair and drydock. The report urged support for the growing tug fleet, which represents one-quarter of the East Coast total, and other maritime businesses located primarily in Brooklyn and Staten Island.
