(WASHINGTON) — The U.S. Navy has awarded $189 million to General Dynamics NASSCO for design and procurement work for a new expeditionary mobile base (ESB) and for repairing littoral combat ships, The San Diego Union-Tribune reported. The San Diego shipyard will receive $106 million for work on the ESB, an offshore staging base for troops and equipment. The yard will also receive $83 million for LCS upgrades. Most of the work will be performed at the NASSCO facility in Barrio Logan, helping the company maintain a work force that currently numbers around 3,600.
