Members of Congress protest White House’s Coast Guard budget

(WASHINGTON) — Member of Congress are protesting proposed cuts to the U.S. Coast Guard’s budget, the homeland security publication HS Today reported. Members including Rep. Peter King of New York and Sen. Maria Cantwell of Washington said the 3.3 percent budget cut would result in too little money for maritime security and safety. Coast Guard Adm. Thad Allen defended the Obama Administration’s proposed budget reduction.
