Matson strike ends almost before it begins; unions agree on new deal

(HONOLULU) — Matson Navigation and its unions have agreed on a new contract, ending a short-lived strike by one union, the Honolulu Advertiser newspaper reported. A single member of the American Radio Association walked out on strike over the weekend, stranding one cargo ship at Seattle after longshoreman refused to service the ship in solidarity. Pending ratification votes, the company and its three unions have since agreed on a new four-year contract.
