Marine Atlantic’s new ferries raise concerns over size, safety

(OTTAWA) — A member of Parliament is raising concerns about Marine Atlantic’s two newly chartered ferries because they may be too large, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported. Similarly large vessels have caused safety problems at Port-aux-Basque, Newfoundland, where winds sometimes are too strong for such ferries to dock. When moored, the big boats also sometimes allegedly cause safety concerns for other vessels at the port.
