Maintenance work along Mississippi River slows barge traffic

(FAIR LANDING, Ark.) — The U.S. Coast Guard and Army Corps of Engineers have restricted three miles of the Mississippi River for bank repairs, causing delays of 10 hours for barges transiting the river near Fair Landing, Ark., KRCU Radio reported. The first day of the closure on miles 632-635 caused a queue of 32 tows with an average of 35 to 45 barges per tow. Now the Corps is allowing tows to proceed through the area after dusk until dawn.
