This intensive four day, 34 hour Individual Small Arms Training and Qualification Course approved by Military Sealift Command (MSC) will provide CIVMARs, CONMARs, and shipboard contract security personnel with the knowledge, skills and abilities to safely, responsibly and effectively employ small arms in individual and unit self-defense of Department of Defense assets to the standards set by the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations and the Commander, Military Sealift Command. Proper mindset and the use of "deadly force" are examined and discussed in depth.  Over the course of four days, attendees qualify with live fire on three weapons: Pistol, Rifle, and Shotgun.  Additionally, the training requires the mariner to demonstrate their competence in the proper care of the weapon(s), field stripping of each weapon(s) and requires a practical demonstration of their marksmanship. Course will involve a few classroom hours (no loaded weapons or ammunition allowed on campus) with the majority of time spent outdoors (dress accordingly) at an MSC/State of Maine approved private shooting range 15 minutes northeast of Maine Maritime Academy. An IMSN certificate approved by MSC and 3.4 Maine Maritime Continuing Education Units awarded upon successful course completion NOTE:Individuals who have been small arms qualified are required to complete annual re-qualification. THIS COURSE IS ALSO OPEN TO NON MARINERS WISHING TO IMPROVE THEIR SHOOTING SKILLS. Pre-requisites- ALL prospective students will be subject to background checks and required to sign and attest that they have never been convicted of a felony or any crime of domestic violence.
