Lockheed, Austal get new LCS contracts

(WASHINGTON) — The Defense Department has awarded Lockheed Martin and Austal one new contract apiece to build additional littoral combat ships, Reuters reported. Lockheed's contract covers construction of LCS 25, another Freedom-variant ship built by Marinette Marine in Marinette, Wis. Austal's contract covers construction of LCS 26, an Independence-variant LCS built in Mobile, Ala. The Pentagon said the cost of each ship could not exceed the congressional cap of $564 million.
