Lock problems delay towboat traffic on Ohio River (PHOTO)

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) — Antiquated Ohio River locks are causing delays for commercial traffic in Pennsylvania, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review newspaper reported. Tows sometimes must wait 24 to 48 hours to transit the locks in the vicinity of Nevill Island. The Army Corps of Engineers says it would cost $2 billion to refurbish the river system’s locks.
