Lind Marine acquires Moose Boats

The following is the text of a news release from Lind Marine:

(VALLEJO, Calif.) — Lind Marine, a Petaluma, Calif., dredging contractor which provides tug and barge services throughout the San Francisco Bay area, has announced the acquisition of Moose Boats, a premier aluminum commercial boatbuilding company. Lind Marine currently operates a five-acre shipyard including a 430-foot dry dock and 1,600 feet of linear pier on Mare Island in Vallejo, Calif.

Lind Marine’s strategic acquisition of Moose Boats will ensure continuity of vessel production for the well-established patrol boat’s brand as well as complement a vertically integrated business model which Lind Marine has developed over the past century. Since its inception in the early 20th century, Lind Marine has evolved from a small-scale oyster shell mining operation to providing a full range of commercial marine services including towing, dredging, sand mining, aggregate barging and ship lightering services. In addition, Lind Marine currently offers ship repair services at its adjacent shipyard on Mare Island.

Moose Boat’s current vessel production will proceed as scheduled following a September relocation into a larger production facility at Mare Island in Vallejo, Calif. The move to Mare Island from the original facility at Port Sonoma Marina has allowed the business to scale its current production line to meet demand for larger aluminum vessels and offer a wider range of Moose Boat designs. In addition to expanded capacity for design-build vessel construction, Moose Boats currently offers refit and maintenance services for aluminum vessels at its new facility on Mare Island. The co-location of Moose Boats in its new facility on Mare Island will also provide for enhanced fabrication and design services for various ship repair and maintenance services at Lind Marine’s shipyard.

Roger Fleck, founder and CEO of Moose Boats, will continue to serve as the company’s executive vice president and will oversee design direction under the company’s new CEO and president, Christian Lind. Christian Lind and Aaron Lind currently serve as vice presidents of Lind Marine and oversee the company’s day-to-day operations. According to Christian Lind, “the acquisition of Moose Boats brings an unparalleled capacity for metal fabrication, vessel rigging and boat design into our existing core business. We are grateful that Roger Fleck has agreed to stay on to direct our vessel designs in order to ensure that the Moose Boats brand continues to flourish as we expand the company’s infrastructure.”

Moose Boats was founded in 2000 by Fleck and has delivered 97 military, law enforcement and fire rescue vessels to date.
