Layoffs averted at Bath Iron Works

(BATH, Maine) — Forty layoffs that were scheduled to take effect Friday at Bath Iron Works have been averted, the Bangor Daily News reported. The leader of the shipyard's largest labor union said other positions have been found at the yard for the pipe coverers and insulators in question. The layoffs were announced Sept. 6 due to a slowdown in BIW's Navy production cycle.
