(NEW YORK) — Relatives of three men who died when the tugboat Specialist collided with a barge moored alongside the Tappan Zee Bridge on the Hudson River have filed lawsuits seeking $100 million in total damages, according to a New York newspaper.
The suits claim Tappan Zee Constructors and Traylor Brothers of Evansville, Ind., contributed to the March 12 accident that killed Paul Amon, Timothy Conklin and Harry Hernandez, The Journal News reported.
One lawsuit alleges that the stationary barge Specialist struck while escorting a crane barge down river was incorrectly aligned in the waterway. As such, the stationary barge allowed the tugboat to be sucked under instead of just being pinned against it.
