La. town protests as state plans to shut down its ferry (PHOTO)

(MELVILLE, La.) — Representatives from the town are lobbying the state government to reverse plans to close the Melville Ferry, the Daily World newspaper reported. The vessel carries 4,000 vehicles per year over the Atchafalaya River. Citing the need for budget cuts, the state plans to close the Melville Ferry on Oct. 9.
