K Line to stop calling at Portland, Ore., due to container slowdown

(PORTLAND, Ore.) — Japan’s K Line will no longer call at Portland due to the slowdown in demand for containerized freight, the Oregonian newspaper reported. The 14-city Asian service had started up just seven months ago. K Line’s decision goes into effect in April and will cost Portland one of its two Asia services — and cost longshoreman a significant amount of work.
