Iowa bridge reopened after towboat strike

The following is the text of a news release from the U.S. Coast Guard:

(NEW ORLEANS) — The Coast Guard reopened a waterway closure near Clinton, Iowa, on Saturday.

The Sabula Railroad Bridge at mile marker 535 on the Upper Mississippi River has been reopened to all marine traffic.

Coast Guard Sector Upper Mississippi River watch standers received a notification at 11:45 p.m. Friday of the towing vessel Dottie Strait alliding with a pier protecting the Sabula Railroad Bridge. The rail bridge suffered no structural damage and an underwater inspection was performed to ensure the safety of the channels.
