Ingram towboat sinks in Mississippi River

The following is the text of a news release from the U.S. Coast Guard:

(NEW ORLEANS) — The unified command has completed its response to a sunken vessel at mile marker 940 along the Mississippi River near Columbus, Ky., on Wednesday.

The vessel was successfully raised and transported to Ingram Repair Facility.

There were no restrictions to commercial or recreational vessel traffic due to the incident.

A total of approximately 235 gallons of diesel fuel was discharged from the vessel during the nine-day salvage incident. SWS Enviromental Services was on scene for the duration of the incident and contained and collected the spilled fuel.

Responders also safely removed over 10,500 gallons of oily water from the vessel, preventing any further discharge in the environment during the salvage operations. The remaining fuel onboard, which is stored in intact tanks, will be removed at the repair facility.

Coast Guard Sector Ohio Valley watch standers were notified Monday, April 17 of the vessel Todd Brown sinking along the right descending bank of the Lower Mississippi River.

Todd Brown had approximately 17,500 gallons of diesel fuel, 150 gallons of lube oil, and 150 gallons of hydraulic oil on board.

The cause of the incident is under investigation.

(NEW ORLEANS) — The unified command continues to respond to a sunken vessel at mile marker 940 along the Mississippi River near Columbus, Kentucky, on Sunday.

Salvage crews are preparing the vessel to be raised out of the water.

Approximately 100 gallons of diesel fuel was discharged from the vessel on Saturday.

SWS Environmental Services contained and collected the spilled fuel.

Salvage crews secured the source of the discharge.

Shoreline assessments have been conducted and crews observed no signs of pollution.

There are currently no restrictions to commercial or recreational vessel traffic due to the incident.

The UC consists of the Coast Guard, Ingram Barge Co., Kentucky Department of Environmental Protection, and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.

SWS Environmental Services is on scene monitoring the situation and boom has been deployed to mitigate a pollution release.
