IMO adopts first-ever convention to clean up ship-breaking industry

(HONG KONG) — The International Maritime Organization has adopted its first-ever ship-recycling convention, the Xinhua news agency reported. The new mandatory standards are designed to make ship-breaking safer to scrap workers and to the environment. Ships will be required to maintain an inventory of hazardous materials.
