(KIRKLAND, Wash.) — Icom is hitting another milestone by creating the world’s first handheld AIS radio. By improving upon the best features from the popular M93D, Icom created the M94D with additional safety in mind.

For the first time, AIS is now available in a compact handheld marine radio. With an AIS receiver and DSC function, receive information broadcast by other AIS-equipped vessels and base stations. With the integrated AIS receiver, vessel traffic information is shown on the display. The AIS target call function allows you to set up a DSC individual call easily. Distress calls can be made quickly with the rear panel button.

The M94D didn’t just come with added AIS. Upgraded features now include 6W of RF power, and class-leading 1,500 mW of audio output with improved acoustic sound clarity, ensuring clear communications, no matter the environment. Also gained on this handheld is more battery power for extended operations (approximately 10 hours).

Other in-demand features included are Icom’s own Float’n Flash and AquaQuake, keeping your radio operational if it becomes submerged. The man-overboard function is included for operator protection. Pressing the distress button while Float’n Flash is activated will transmit the MOB distress signal, allowing the operator to be more quickly and easily located.
