(PITTSBURGH) — Hyde Marine Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Calgon Carbon Corporation, is launching a multi-part webinar series to educate technical directors/managers, ship owners, operators, naval architects and port/harbor authorities from Asia Pacific, Europe, Africa, and the Americas about proper compliance with International Maritime Organization (IMO) and United States Coast Guard (USCG) ballast water treatment regulations.
The first one-hour webinar entitled, “Understanding Misconceptions About the IMO & USCG Ballast Water Regulations,” will be conducted April 15, 2014, 9 a.m. (GMT) and 2 p.m. (EST), and led by Mark Riggio, Product Manager, Hyde Marine.

In 2004, the IMO adopted the International Convention for the Control and Management of Ships' Ballast Water and Sediments (BWMC), which requires ships to conduct a ballast water exchange or to meet concentration-based ballast water discharge standards at ports with ballast tanks 99.99% free of living organisms and pathogens.
The enforcement of the USCG’s final ballast water regulation, which began in December 2013, along with the pending ratification of the IMO BWM Convention, places ship owners on a strict timeline to install proven BWT technology to bring their vessels into compliance.

AMS approval is an interim measure that allows the Hyde GUARDIAN to be used on vessels for five years after the vessel is required to comply with the USCG Ballast Water Discharge Standards.
