High water forces cancellation of Illinois River towboat festival

(GRAFTON, Ill.) — The Great Rivers Towboat Festival has been canceled because of high water, the Belleville News-Democrat newspaper reported. Not enough of the community’s Illinois River seawall is exposed to allow two Army Corps of Engineers vessels to tie up in a safe enough manner to allow tours. The dredge Potter and MV Pathfinder had been scheduled to appear at the festival this weekend.
