Halifax officials consider moving port to clear way for development

(HALIFAX, Nova Scotia) — Some local officials are considering moving the Halifax port to make way for waterfront development, the Chronicle Herald newspaper reported. One mariner and transportation executive says that’s a bad idea, even though the port has experienced a 30 percent decline in volume. He said the south-end open-water container facility is the envy of other East Coast ports and will see a cyclical upturn in volumes again.
