(CLEVELAND) — The Great Lakes Towing Co. begins work on the tug New Jersey as part of its ongoing fleet overhaul program. Dry-docking and routine maintenance for New Jersey includes:
— Typical U.S. Coast Guard inspections
— Dry-docking and routine maintenance and repairs
— Cleaning and painting
— Remove rudder, prop and shaft for maintenance
— Service sea valves
— Replace shaft bearing
— Convert generator from air to electric (battery) start
— Install new depth sounder transducer
— Other various cleaning, inspections and repairs
The 34,000-bollard-pull tug is the 13th tug to be overhauled and inspected as part of the company’s initiative thus far. Other tugs included in the major fleet overhaul program to date include Arkansas, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Missouri, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Superior, Vermont and Wyoming.
In the short-term, the program will also include North Dakota and Kentucky.
