Great Lakes states may enforce own ballast rules, court says

(DULUTH, Minn.) — A federal court has ruled that states may have their own ballast water rules, Minnesota Public Radio reported. The 6th Circuit Court of Appeals upheld Michigan’s ballast regulations, and Minnesota’s permit system went into effect Oct. 1. Maritime groups have tried to block the state laws in favor of a uniform federal system.
