Great Lakes mariners push for construction of new Soo Lock

(DULUTH, Minn.) — Mariners and public officials in the Great Lakes are pushing for construction of a new Soo Lock, the Chicago Tribune reported. A 10-year project to build the new lock likely would employ about 250 people. The backers are hoping such an effort can be part of President-Elect Obama’s plan to stimulate the U.S. economy through large infrastructure projects.
