Great Lakes mariners expect fewer freighters to sail in 2009

(PORT HURON, Mich.) — Maritime industry representatives expect fewer boats to transport cargo on the Great Lakes this year, the Times Herald newspaper reported. A slowdown in steelmaking and other industries means less demand for taconite and other raw materials. The Edward L. Ryerson may not even sail this year.
