Gas pipeline ruptured, towing vessel damaged in Arkansas River accident

The following is the text of a press release issued by the U.S. Coast Guard:

(NEW ORLEANS) – The Coast Guard is responding to a ruptured pipeline on the Arkansas River, Tuesday.

Watchstanders with Coast Guard Sector Lower Mississippi River received a report from Jeffery Sand Company Monday of an incident at mile marker 117.3 of the Arkansas River involving the report of damage to the port side of the motor vessel Chris M and a ruptured pipe line.

Sector Lower Mississippi River responded by deploying two pollution investigators. No visible pollution on the water was found at the time of the on scene investigation.

Currently the river is closed from mile marker 116 to 118 with no vessels waiting to transit upstream or down due to existing high water lock closures, at river mile marker 156 and 108.
