Fisher Maritime lists shipyard-project training dates

(FLORHAM PARK, N.J.) — Since 1988, Fisher Maritime Consulting Group has provided training programs to over 5,000 representatives of over 500 organizations from over 25 countries. These programs have been offered since training for project preparation and management of shipyard projects is rarely formally addressed in the education of maritime industry personnel. Participation in these programs remedies that deficiency, giving the attendees wider, very practical perspectives and exposing them to many lessons learned by others.

The firm currently offers two programs on an open-registration basis: the Contract Management for Ship Construction, Repair & Design course, and the Port Engineer's & Owner's Representatives course.

The Contract Management for Ship Construction, Repair & Design course is designed for project managers who handle day-to-day relations with the other party, people who form contracts, as well as senior managers who monitor contract-related resources and cash flow. For 2017, this program has been scheduled for the following dates and locations:

• Seattle, Wash. — April 4-6
• Halifax, Nova Scotia — June 20-22
• Portland, Ore. — Nov. 14-16

Additional programs are also offered in the United Kingdom by the Royal Institution of Naval Architects.

The Port Engineer's & Owner's Representatives course is designed for shipowner personnel who prepare specifications, accompany ships to shipyards, and arrange for new/growth/change work during contract performance. For 2017, this program has been scheduled for the following dates and locations:

• New Orleans, La. — May 23-25
• Baltimore, Md. — Sept. 12-14

Each program is presented by Dr. Kenneth Fisher, a leading authority on the development and management of complex contracts and specifications for ship construction, conversion, repair and design. As an arbitrator, expert witness, consultant, and instructor for nearly 30 years, he brings clarity and organization to an otherwise-complex set of management requirements unique to the maritime industry.
