Fire engulfs 55-foot tender boat; Alaska ferry rescues both crewmen

(JUNEAU, Alaska) — A fast-moving engine-room fire destroyed a 55-foot tender boat near Alaska’s Funter Bay, the Juneau Empire newspaper reported. Both of the crewmen from the Alaskan Pride abandoned ship in 10-foot seas, with 35 knot winds. The Alaska Marine Highway System ferry Taku was nearby and rescued them from their life raft.
