Ferry runs aground near New York's Jamaica Bay

The following is the text of a news release from the U.S. Coast Guard:

(NEW YORK) (May 28) — The Coast Guard is currently responding to a ferry that ran aground near Jamaica Bay, N.Y., at approximately 12 p.m. today.

Watchstanders at Sector New York in Staten Island, N.Y., received a call at approximately 12:15 p.m. that the 55-foot SeaStreak ferry Ocean State had run aground with 25 passengers and four crewmembers onboard.

All passengers onboard were safely offloaded onto an FDNY vessel and transported to the pier at Beach 116th Street in Rockaway Park, N.Y., with no injuries reported.

A small boat from Coast Guard Station New York is en route to the scene of the incident transporting a marine inspector and an investigating officer from Sector New York.

The incident is currently under investigation.
