Evacuees jam North Carolina ferries as Hurricane Earl approaches

(HATTERAS ISLAND, N.C.) — Tourists and residents crowded onto ferries that were evacuating them from North Carolina’s outer islands as Hurricane Earl approached, the Reuters news service reported. Meteorologists forecast that Earl will sideswipe the Outer Banks and other coastal areas of the Eastern Seaboard. Hatteras and Okracoke islands were among the areas being evacuated.
